TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

My teaching methods use positive reinforcement training. These methods are based on the scientific principals of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is dependent on behavior. Under these principles, if you reinforce behaviors that you like (your dog acting or sitting calm, heeling at your side) your dog will begin to offer these behaviors more frequently. If your dog is not reinforced or is ignored for doing behaviors you do not like (acting crazy, jumping up, or pulling on a leash) he is likely to repeat these behaviors less frequently in the future. Good results in obedience training require large doses of consistency, good timing, and patience.

I firmly believe a dog’s obedience should come out of love and respect, not strain or pain. You and your dog will learn to work together, not against one another, and your dog will gain a better understanding of what it is you want and expect from him. In fact, your relationship will become so great; your dog will want to please you!

I will help you figure out how to train your dog. I will teach you how to observe your dog for important clues to his behaviors and actions. I will watch you and your dog work together and will tell you when you are not communicating clearly with your dog. You can become a great trainer and I will teach you how to achieve this. You are the one who will be training your dog and it is my job to teach you the clear, consistent path to achieving your goals.
